Tajikistan has business plans to become global cement exporter by 2020 by augmenting its cement capacity as reported by Tajikistan's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. As of now, there are six new cement plants under construction, which will enable to meet the domestic needs of the country, along with manufacturing cement for exporting purpose. Both domestic and foreign funding are offering financial support for the functioning of these units. These units are scheduled to be opened in places such as Tajchina, Bobokon, Dangara, Gafurov, Istiklol city and Isfara districts. The financial support from Chinese government is also patronizing medium and large scale cement plants, which include projects in Khatlon & Sughd. The construction of cement plant in Tajchina, a Tajikistan-China joint venture, has already started and is scheduled to start its operation by the end of 2015. The above developments will offer a fillip to the cement sector. Presently, the sector consists of just ten plants, with Tajikistan expecting to become a global cement exporter. Earlier it was exporting cement from countries such as Pakistan, China and Iran.
