The passive optical network (PON) is an optical fiber based network architecture, which enables higher bandwidth in the access network compared to other traditional networks based on copper. Recently, AEPONYX Inc. has incorporated wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) service in a PON which allows the consumers increased bandwidth compared to the standard PON.
AEPONYX Inc. will exhibit the industry's first standards-based 10 Gbps single fiber 40 channels WDM-PON solution at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) 2015 Exposition. This innovative solution is designed to operate on the C-band 50 GHz ITU Grid. The solution will consist of the AEPONYX Colormux C/2 and Colornode C/2 WDM-PON passives, small-form pluggable transceivers (SFPs) along with fixed transceivers operating at 1 & 10 Gbps.
It is the cutting-edge technology available in the market that provides a number of dedicated capacity circuits to multiple client premises across various wavelengths, for as long as 40 km using a single fiber optic line, which is considered secure. The technology is unique since it eliminates the need of any equipment between the service-provider site and the client premises.
As explained by AEPONYX CTO & Co-Founder Francois Menard "The recent commercial availability and competitive supply of tunable SFP+ able to tune on a 50 GHz grid has justified the development of the first standards-based & fully interoperable single-fiber WDM-PON solution based on the use of half the C-Band in each direction,"
He further adds "Our customers can now confidently deploy our Colormux C/2 and Colornode C/2 WDM-PON passives knowing they will enable an upgrade to 100 Gbps per channel with CFP-2 ACO's, without requiring any change to the outside plant or disrupting any existing service," concluded AEPONYX CTO & Co-Founder.
